Small, flexible publishers like Latterly are trying new business models that don’t involve advertising. Some others include Deca, The Big Roundtable and dozens of print-focused indie magazines. At Latterly, we’re experimenting with a mix of revenue streams that include digital memberships, print magazine distribution and product sales. The fact we’re self-funding makes it a slow process, but at least we’re trying. And, since we publish on Medium, we stand to gain if Ev turns out to be our generation’s Gutenberg.
